ADDENDUM

California Western Dressage Association 2020 Statewide High Point Program
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

CAWDA Show Season – 1/1/2020 – 11/1/2020
Thank you for your interest in participating in the 2020 California Western Dressage Association (CAWDA) Statewide High Point program.
In consideration for participating in the 2020 CAWDA High Point Program, CAWDA will:
  • List each show on the CAWDA website as a high point qualifier
  • Send out monthly eNews listing upcoming events to the CAWDA mailing list
  • Post event notification of the show series on the CAWDA Facebook page
  • Advertise on certain paid-advertising venues such as Facebook at its discretion Track and maintain the submitted CAWDA high point scores, and award winners of the CAWDA High Points at the close of the competition year
  • Provide show management with copies of CAWDA flyer for display at shows
  • Provide show management with an electronic copy of the 2020 CAWDA Approved Show Series logo for use in their show programs, websites, advertising, etc.

In consideration for CAWDA approval, each show listed on Page 4 of this document:
  • Must abide by and use USEF approved Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA) Competition Rules, including rules governing tack and attire. Shows do not have to be USEF or WDAA approved/rated shows.
  • Must offer at least two WDAA classes in each level: Intro, Basic, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 (“Test of Choice” Level classes will also be accepted in place of the 2-class minimum). Exceptional Rider tests, Freestyles and rail classes (Equitation, Suitability and Hack) are optional at shows; participants will be awarded CAWDA points for freestyle scores and Exceptional Rider tests for 2020.
  • Must be judged by a USEF licensed Western Dressage judge, WDAA non-licensed (schooling) judge, a USDF “L” graduate, or USEF licensed dressage judge. For shows offering solely WD classes (not combined with English dressage classes), CAWDA recommends that the judge be a USEF WD non-licensed or licensed judge or a USDF“L” graduate or higher judge who has attended the WDAA Train the Trainers™ program or the WDAA Judges program. Show managers can request a list of judges from the CAWDA at info@cawda.org. Show organizers are expected to do their due diligence when selecting judges.
  • Must provide a copy of the USEF approved WDAA rules to the judge at the show. (CAWDA will issue a copy of the rules to the show manager if requested.) Show manager must ensure judge is familiar with USEF approved WD rules.
  • Qualifying classes must be open to all breeds and riders. Breed shows may qualify for CAWDA High Point shows as long as they include open classes. Breed only classes do not count toward CAWDA High Point classes.
  • Shows can be rated or schooling shows; no “playdays.”
  • Send a copy of the show premium to CAWDA, PO Box 44, Sunland, CA 91041, before the show or send a link to an electronic copy of the premium to info@cawda.org. (Where possible, CAWDA will post the premium or the link on the event’s CAWDA page.)
  • Must post the CAWDA/ High Point flyer provided by CAWDA. (Show managers are not required to collect membership payments or applications.)
  • Must collect a $3 CAWDA high point fee per Western Dressage participant/entry (members and non-members). This is a per entry fee (horse/rider), not a per class fee. CAWDA High Point fee must be listed on the show premium.
  • Must submit all Western Dressage scores (member and non-member) or a website link to scores and total CAWDA high point fees collected to CAWDA within 14 days after the show.
  • Must post participants’ scores at the show grounds during the show; must return tests to participants with judge’s scores, test ridden, comments, date and signature before the end of the show.
The 2020 CAWDA show year runs January 1 to November 1, 2019. No shows scheduled between November 2 and December 31, 2020, will be recognized as a 2020 CAWDA High Point show. Recognized 2020 shows postponed due to unforeseen circumstances which are rescheduled after November 1, 2020, will count toward the 2021 CAWDA High Point.

Shows submitted for CAWDA High Point program recognition must be submitted at least 30 days prior to show date. Shows requested for recognition within 30 days of the show date will not be recognized.

Show management must carry appropriate liability insurance. CAWDA is not responsible for any liability incurred at show venues and has no financial stake in the show other than listing the show in its CAWDA High Point program. It is recommended that the show manager sign up for the CAWDA newsletter on its Home page at https://cawda.org.

Notices of upcoming high point shows are announced through this e-newsletter. Show managers can find the CAWDA High Point Rules for participants at this link: 2020 CAWDA Statewide High Point Rules and the list of High Point shows at this link: 2020 CAWDA High Point Shows.

WDAA rules can be found at: http://westerndressageassociation.org/western-dressagerules-tests/ WDAA tests can be found at: http://westerndressageassociation.org/wdaatests/.

CAWDA or the show management has the right to cancel this agreement with 30 days written notice.
